Killing Sheelo is not that difficult. She's fully susceptible to IGMs (maximized work best) and Blade Barriers. It's about the only way to cut through her high damage resistance. The Devastation Beetle on the other hand is a verifiable BASTARD. The only trick I've found is to dominate the Frost Giant Badass and use him to tank for you against the beetle. You'll have to spam heal kits on the FGBA too, since the beetle will be dropping 100-200 hp damage on him per hit. I've tried Mord's on the beetle to reduce that spell resistance, but it's almost a lost cause.
Another key note about the shield above: Don't plan on any melee builds to be able to use it early in life... the level requirement is 38!!! Still, it's one of the only decent boss drops in the game IMO.

The devastation beetle sure is tough badders but he has a lilmited number of attacks so an epic dodging monk/cleric works him over np.
he has awesome sr only a mording pure caster has any hope of using magic but clever players know spells like creeping doom that are sr independant. He also is a rare boss without true seeing ..so thats a weakness too.
Is this about the Dev Beetle or the Shell that can be retrieved if you can kill the bastard?
The Devastation Beetle: is a mindless thing and therefore, immune to all mind effecting spells. Most magic just bounces off his hardened protective shell. I have Dev'ed it and so have others, but not very often. Plan on taking a few hard hitters and a good cleric to keep you all healed.
The Dev Shield: is made with Dragon Blood available from 4 different dragons now and the Dev Shell.
Shorty can now custom make any size shield you prefer.
This is the perfect to pair up with a Widow Maker or Kiss.
