Annoying Players

Annoying players are something that have been plauging our little gaming group more and more lately. We've been getting bombarded with "invite's", why in the heck do players with low level characters feel the need to invite everyone on the server into some gigantic MEGA-party? When I'm playing my higher level characters I only want to be in a party with players in the same level range so we can communicate normally and grind out some levels. It's a pain the rear when you're trying to kill Insane Druids while the lowbies are talking about that rat that took 47 hits to kill down in the tombs.

Which leads me to my next complaint, babysitting players with crappy characters, nothing is more annoying to a party than that one person that has like a straight 40th level fighter that only used the "reccomended" Button to build his chacater, and doesnt have any gear. Just the other day there was some idiot that needed us to escort him from Northbound to the north face of Sheelo mountain because his AC was 27....27! Come on! what the heck, go buy some frigging upgrades, when we asked him if he was going to upgrade his gear he said "no". Seriously, what the heck is wrong with people like that? If you're going to gain enough levels to go to Sheelo Mountain you probably have enough money to at the least add +5 AC to all of your gear.

Another problem is gaming with players that speak a different language, and when the player pretends that he doesn't understand english so he can steal your boss drops. Jim Brannick speaks of a time when he, Darian The Bold, and some non english speaking player, killed the shark, and when Jim went to pick up the boss drop it was gone. Darian told Jim that he could have it so it was wasnt him, the only other person that was in the party was the non english speaking player (nesp) who convienatly played dumb when asked to please hand over the shark skin to Jim (who was the one that killed the shark in the first place). So if you run into any NESP's beware.

I really hate it when people abuse 'shout'. The worst one is when this certain player we all know just sits there and repeats "I'm bored" over and over again. Well, why the hell did you log in then? If you're that bored why not try to gain some levels or go exploring, but oh wait, you have a crappy character that has to be babysat by every player on the entire server so your only option is to cry and whine when nobody will party with you. Oh thats a good one, players who cry and whine when you don't want to join their party. This has happened to me more than once. Sometimes I just feel like playing alone, or don't have alot of time to make joining a party worth while, so when people ask me to join or send an invite I politly decline the offer. Thats when the whining & begging starts, sometimes its so bad I just log out so I dont have to deal with it. Next time this happenes thats when the PK'ing starts.

I think the worst are players who are just plain lazy. When my friends and I started on BadLands we explored as much as we could, read all the rules and descriptions before we'd so much as ask anything. I hate when people log in and ask for a Dozo Stone. I mean come on, just look around for 30 seconds and you'll find it. Or my favorite, "where's the armory?" Are you kidding me!? You practically run into it when you enter Dozo for the first time, idiot. I wish they'd just slow down and do some exploring and reading first before they start 'shouting' or sending 'tells' with their stupid questions.

These are only a few of the annoyances that happen to us on a weekly basis, if your're one of these people please use some common courtesy when gaming on BadLands, it's not difficult and it makes the place more fun for everyone.

I totally agree with Simon's sentiments. There's also a general lack of courtesy.
Just the other day, I was running around the Mt. when a low-level character logged in and asked me to help him do an equipment and gold transfer. I wasn't that busy (was just killing ants) so I obliged. After I port into Dozo he tries to hand me stuff via "barter". Now, I'm sorry, but I HATE barter. I think it's buggy as all hell, and it seems like it NEVER works. It's much easier just to drop something and have the other person pick it up. Anyway, because barter isn't working for me, this guy says, "wtf RU DOING???". Now, at that point I should have said screw you and left. But since I'm a nice guy I stick around and help him complete his item swap. I'm expecting him to give me some money and maybe upgraded equipment... No, he hands me boots, belt, cloak, and bracers- all of which are entirely MUNDANE! So, this idiot could've had his new character buy them in Dozo for about 20gp. What a moron! To make matters worse, he dropped 20k in gold. Instead of dropping straight gold, I thought I'd help him out and dropped him 10 emeralds (worth 40k-- twice as much as he gave me!). But he plays dumb like he didn't pick up the emeralds then demands his 20k gold. I gave it to him because I just wanted to leave at that point. Oh, I almost forgot! Before I gave him his transfers, I had to wait for him to finish his new character creation and subrace selection... which took about 10 minutes. Essentially, I wasted about 30 minutes of my time with this weasel and I was pissed afterwards. So I get back to the Mt. and he starts asking me for gold. I lie and say I'm all out (now come on, what lvl 40 player doesn't have gold???), but he buys it. Then he asks if I'll make a new character so I can help him level. Um, hello?! I'm not here to simply help you! My free time is limited as it is- I definitely don't have time to babysit your sorry and ungrateful ass.
I've NEVER PK'ed anyone on that server. But it's interactions like that that make me want to create an assassin build and start sneak attacking everyone I see.

This one is tough. Try to remember the server is used by several people of diffrent cultural backgrounds , ages (8-60) and even some half asleep folk.
Despite these issues people are expected to behave in a manner express by both of u and i actually expect u to PK any individuals that repeatedly breach server conduct on shouts , with spammed invites and continual begging ....
I Know i do its therapeutic

I've never PK'd anyone before, but it's getting more and more tempting as the annoyance level climbs through the roof. Maybe I'm just becoming less tolerant in my old age :) Plus the server rules technically say to "play your alignment". Thats why my new caster has some evil mixed in...you know, for crowd control. :)

dude, i was one of the first to notice the "oki" invasion.. long before Christmas, they were there on our server, struggling to lvl their chars.. sending party invitations to everyone they saw loggin.. we had mickles and other brats before that, but they stopped showing when the summer holydays were over.. these new annoying players came together to the server, carefully trying to fit in, being sort of polite.. I've grouped with them in the past.. but never again.. ever.. total waste of time, not to mention the rage u'll get by being around them.. better to just bash them around to make them really scared of u..

Welcome to the blog, Deimonos & Darian.

Dei, that is hilarious! I love your wording "oki" invasion, that is classic. When I first partied with the Oki's it wasn't to bad, but it didn't take long before I was literally pulling my hair out. I think out of the whole group there was one decent player who I wouldn't consider bashing around. lol.

I don't think I was around for the Mickles thing, from the sounds of it thats a good thing.

You are lucky u didnt meet that guy. Besides lacking skill to make a good build, he was needy..
The worst thing about those annoying players, in my opinion, is that they are all big leechers. They avoid enemies, especially polar bears, always letting you take the lead, and therefore become the tank for them. They don't heal you and sometimes their chars can barely hit their targets. So basically, you carry them through their lvls. After a while, it gets really unbearable..

Well thanks to deurack the almighty bounty hunter Jims shark skin is awaiting his return. But this appears to be just the beginning!
